Sons of Anarchy was (and is still) a very popular show, and there is no doubt that it’s the characters and the gripping storyline that are the reason for that. However, anyone who has seen Sons of Anarchy would know that there is something else that catches the viewers’ attention; and that is their extensive gallery of motorbikes.
What better way is there to adorn a group of badass outlaws than with heavy slabs of fuel guzzling machinery? These are the horses of today’s cowboys and the TV series has enough variety for the fans to marvel at whenever the crew is too busy beefing with rivals.
So, let’s start with a general overview of the bikes in the show. Most of the bikes we get to see are the property of SAMCRO. They take pride in their bikes. The interesting thing is that most of them ride Harley Davidson Dyna Wideglides and despite this there is still variety. It is possible that the show did this in order to show that motorbikes aren’t just a means of travelling distance but can also be a canvas for bikers to paint their personalities.
The bikes in the movie also have a uniform style. They are different from a lot of the modern bikes today (like dual sport bikes) which have all the machinery covered up. With the Harleys, the metal is showed off – just like in the early day’s motorcycles.
Jax is probably the most important character of the show and his ride goes to show for it. He rides a 2003 Harley Davidson Super Glide Sport. It has a four stroke V-twin engine with a 1449 displacement and a 95.3 ×101.6mm bore/stroke ratio. The bikes fuel capacity is 4.9 gallons and it has a torque of 78.2 ft lbs. It certainly looks classic with its powder coated black body as well as his custom T-bars and his unmistakeable logo of the reaper he has displayed on his fuel tank. His bike looks comfortable – at least it Jax looks comfortable riding it. Charlie Hunnam (the person who plays Jax) said he feels at home when riding a bike because he has been riding since he was 11.
Then there’s a contrast with Piney’s bike, which proves that you’ve got to respect the elders. He isn’t prepared to leave his ride – despite his health. He rides a bike with an air-cooled, twin cam 103 valve pushrod engine which also features overhead valves with hydraulic, self-adjusting lifters - with two valves per cylinder. It has a torque of 101 ft lbs and a 6 gallon fuel capacity. This one is rather unique since it is a trike and has been modified to be able to hold an oxygen tank between the wheels at the bike. His logo is a reaper with an oxygen tank and mask.
Clay’s bike is a 2008 Harley Davidson Dyna Super Glide with a Twin Cam 96 Pushrod V-twin engine. The bike's torque is 92 ft lbs and its bore/stroke ratio 95.25 x 111.25mm. With 4.8 gallons of fuel the bike has been customised, down to the reaper logo with the Sons of Anarchy, California tag.
